Angie Steen always knew she wanted to make people look and feel their best.

Nearly 20 years of professional experience has honed the way she does that, but her desire is as strong today as when she first earned her cosmetology license.

When Angie began her career, South Dakota only issued cosmetology licenses, which meant she was capable of everything from cuts and color to manicures, pedicures, waxing, and a host of other services. The broad skills she was allowed to use came with an unexpected opportunity to experiment and then to zero in on what she loved most.

Over time she discovered that some parts of her job weren’t as satisfying as others.

“Everyone has a  favorite go-to—fresh nails, new haircut, or even a simple eyebrow wax—that makes them feel better,” she explains. “When it comes to hair, matching what clients envision with what they describe could get tricky.”

As the spa trend took off in Sioux Falls, Angie saw her chance to expand her skills even further.

“I landed a job at a spa that was just opening and it gave me an opportunity to do more and more aesthetics. I loved it right from the beginning!”

“What I love most is the boost aesthetics gives my clients. They share their individual struggles and we tackle them together so that they walk out with more confidence.”

By then South Dakota offered aesthetics licensing, which, since she was already proficient in the field, Angie earned with ease. About ten years ago, she took her love of aesthetics even further by stepping up to medical aesthetics where she specializes in facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion.

“It’s an exciting field,” she says. “There’s so much that can be done less invasively and with less down time. And, we just keep getting better and better at identifying and meeting each person’s unique skin needs.”

But that’s only the beginning for Angie. “What I love most is the boost aesthetics gives my clients. They share their individual struggles and we tackle them together so that they walk out with more confidence.”

Pro Tip: Never skip SPF! It’s important all year.

Something Unexpected: I have male clients. Their skin is different, but just as important.

Aesthetics Hidden Benefit: Peace and relaxation—we all need it!

We are so excited to introduce Heidi Thoreson as the newest member of the Kalon team! Heidi will be joining us as a Physician Assistant, performing light and laser procedures as well as microneedling and injections. “The goals and values of Kalon emulate my own personal ones, so I feel so blessed to be part of this team,” Heidi says.

“The goals and values of Kalon emulate my own personal ones, so I feel so blessed to be part of this team.”

Heidi grew up in Lake Benton, MN and attended North Dakota State in Fargo for undergrad. She continued her education at the University of South Dakota where she earned her PA degree. After receiving some aesthetic treatments, she became interested in the possibilities that this field of medicine could offer.

One of her favorite treatments to perform is lip filler because of the immediate confidence boost it can give patients. “You can see results instantly and patients leave so excited,” she says.

Heidi is looking forward to growing in confidence and ability in her new role as she explores the many new and exciting things in the field of aesthetics. One of the treatments she is most excited to try herself is Halo because of the multitude of benefits including evening skin tone, shrinking pores, and minimizing scars.

Heidi and her family skiing

In her free time, Heidi loves to spend time with her husband of 15 years and their twin children. Together, they love going to sporting events, visiting the lake, and doing any kind of outdoor activities including one of Heidi’s favorites—playing on the trampoline. Heidi can do a great flip!

We are so happy to have Heidi’s energy and spirit on our team. To meet her yourself, schedule an appointment today!

More than ever, your inner beauty, outer glow needs nurturing. Kalon is here with shopping options that are convenient, simple to navigate, and above all, safe.

In-Person Shopping

Planning a visit to our retail boutique? Great! We’ll be glad to see you. Here’s what to expect from parking lot to checkout:

  • With your mask already on, enter through the building’s south entrance near the Kalon boutique.

  • Just inside the door, you’ll step up to a scanner that will read your temperature. It will flash green if you’re under 100.4 degrees.

  • The nearby attendant will ask you standard questions we’ve all come to expect regarding close contact and pending COVID tests. If you’ve forgotten your mask, he or she can provide you with a disposable one.

  • In our boutique, our employees will be masked at all times, and they will regularly sanitize surfaces and other contact points.

  • Because Kalon’s boutique is small, on occasion we may have to limit the number of customers inside. We promise to do our best to keep things moving so your wait is a short one.

  • We’re also adding checkouts in the Vance Thompson Vision lobby to limit wait times and to maintain social distancing.

Call-In Shopping and Curbside Pick-Up

Prefer to skip the crowd altogether? We can do that! Here’s how:

  • Call Our Retail Boutique

Our sales associates will be happy to take your order over the phone. Not sure what you need? Deciding can be tricky when you’re not there in person, but rest assured, our knowledgeable associates are pros at matching products and services to your unique needs. They’ll also be able to apply gift cards or benefits from your electronic Kalon wallet. Call (605) 983-7546 to get started.

  • Ask for Curbside Pick-Up

Our specialists will give you pick-up instructions when you call. Follow those when you arrive to pick up your order.

  • Pick-Up and Enjoy

When you arrive, park in the designated spots on the west side of the building. You’ll find them by taking a right when you enter the Vance Thompson Vision lot (don’t drive under the main entrance awning, but turn away from it). Once you’ve pulled into a spot marked for Kalon’s curbside pick-up, text “I’ve arrived!” and your name to (605) 983-7546. (Yes, our text and voice number are the same.) An associate will bring out your order shortly.

During these unprecedented times, we all need a few trusted havens we can safely retreat into for a few moments of normalcy. It is our hope that Kalon is that for you. Together we believe we can fight COVID and keep our inner beauty, outer glow.

Anne’s bright personality and love for people help her shine as our Director. Kalon’s “inner beauty, outer glow” message resonates with Anne. Her focus on and interest in skin care has grown over the past five years. She continues to be impressed by the knowledge the Kalon team has to share. She is always learning!

She  loves the feeling of baby-soft skin and having a warm glow after a SilkPeel dermalinfusion treatment and looks forward to trying a BroadBand Light therapy.

In her free time, Anne enjoys spending time with her son and dog.

Relaxation for Anne means playing the piano or spending time with her family and dog. On weekends, she enjoys watching her son play tennis. We hope you get the chance to work with Anne because she always brings a smile and encouragement for others!
