Meet Angie Steen

Angie Steen always knew she wanted to make people look and feel their best.

Nearly 20 years of professional experience has honed the way she does that, but her desire is as strong today as when she first earned her cosmetology license.

When Angie began her career, South Dakota only issued cosmetology licenses, which meant she was capable of everything from cuts and color to manicures, pedicures, waxing, and a host of other services. The broad skills she was allowed to use came with an unexpected opportunity to experiment and then to zero in on what she loved most.

Over time she discovered that some parts of her job weren’t as satisfying as others.

“Everyone has a  favorite go-to—fresh nails, new haircut, or even a simple eyebrow wax—that makes them feel better,” she explains. “When it comes to hair, matching what clients envision with what they describe could get tricky.”

As the spa trend took off in Sioux Falls, Angie saw her chance to expand her skills even further.

“I landed a job at a spa that was just opening and it gave me an opportunity to do more and more aesthetics. I loved it right from the beginning!”

“What I love most is the boost aesthetics gives my clients. They share their individual struggles and we tackle them together so that they walk out with more confidence.”

By then South Dakota offered aesthetics licensing, which, since she was already proficient in the field, Angie earned with ease. About ten years ago, she took her love of aesthetics even further by stepping up to medical aesthetics where she specializes in facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion.

“It’s an exciting field,” she says. “There’s so much that can be done less invasively and with less down time. And, we just keep getting better and better at identifying and meeting each person’s unique skin needs.”

But that’s only the beginning for Angie. “What I love most is the boost aesthetics gives my clients. They share their individual struggles and we tackle them together so that they walk out with more confidence.”
