ProFractional FAQs

The ProFractional laser resurfaces your skin by applying a pinpoint laser to tiny fractions of your skin. Areas around that pinpoint remain untouched by the laser and activate your skin’s natural healing response. New collagen is produced to firm the skin, smooth fine lines, and diminish scars or other visible imperfections.

The ProFractional laser resurfaces your skin and treats scars from trauma or surgery, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks, and aging and sun-damaged skin.

Your provider will apply a topical anesthetic, or numbing cream, to the area being treated. The laser will be adjusted based on whether you have opted for one aggressive treatment or multiple less-aggressive treatments. During your treatment, your provider will position the ProFractional laser device on your skin and you will hear the laser clicking as it works. Depending on the size of the treatment area, your session may last from 15 to 30 minutes.

Your skin will look and feel as though you’ve had a sunburn. The day after your procedure, old skin will begin to fall away, and you may experience an itching sensation. After a couple days, you will notice skin beginning to heal. Your provider will suggest topical healing agents to keep your skin moist during the process.

In the days following your procedure, your skin will heal and you will experience some “tightening” of the skin. The ongoing effects of renewed collagen production will continue to improve the look and feel of your skin for the next 4 to 6 months.
